Lipid Profile

A comprehensive set of blood tests to evaluate your cholesterol and triglyceride levels – essential for assessing cardiovascular risk and guiding heart‑healthy lifestyle changes.

Overview

Know your numbers, protect your heart.

A lipid profile is a group of blood tests that measures the levels of fats (lipids) in your blood – including total cholesterol, LDL (bad cholesterol), HDL (good cholesterol), and triglycerides. It is the primary tool for assessing cardiovascular risk and is essential for preventing heart attacks, strokes, and other vascular diseases.

High cholesterol and triglycerides are silent risk factors – they often have no symptoms until a heart event occurs. Early detection through a simple blood test allows you and your doctor to take action with lifestyle changes (diet, exercise) or medications (statins, fibrates) to reduce risk significantly.

At Amytri, our lipid profile is performed using fully automated analysers with stringent quality controls. Results are interpreted by experienced pathologists and shared with your physician. We also offer home sample collection for your convenience, making it easy to prioritise your heart health.

What the lipid profile typically includes

  • Total Cholesterol – the overall level of cholesterol in your blood
  • LDL (Low‑Density Lipoprotein) – the "bad" cholesterol that contributes to plaque build‑up
  • HDL (High‑Density Lipoprotein) – the "good" cholesterol that helps remove cholesterol from arteries
  • Triglycerides – the most common type of fat in the body, linked to heart disease
  • VLDL (Very Low‑Density Lipoprotein) – another type of "bad" cholesterol, often calculated
  • Non‑HDL Cholesterol – total cholesterol minus HDL, a newer marker of risk
  • Lipid ratios (e.g., TC/HDL, LDL/HDL) – for refined risk assessment
  • Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) and Lp(a) – if indicated for advanced risk stratification
Why it matters

Essential for heart health & longevity.

High cholesterol is one of the most important modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular disease. A lipid profile helps you and your doctor take control.

Detection

Identify high cholesterol

Many people have high cholesterol without knowing it – screening is the only way to detect it early and start preventive measures.

Monitoring

Track treatment effectiveness

If you are on statin therapy or lifestyle changes, regular lipid profiles show whether your LDL and triglycerides are improving.

Prevention

Prevent heart attacks and strokes

Lowering LDL and triglycerides reduces the risk of atherosclerosis, heart attacks, and strokes – and improves overall longevity.

What we offer

Comprehensive lipid testing panels.

We offer a full range of lipid tests – from basic screening to advanced lipoprotein analysis – to give you and your doctor the complete picture.

Total Cholesterol

Measures all cholesterol in your blood. Desirable level: < 200 mg/dL. Levels above 240 mg/dL are considered high risk.

LDL (Bad Cholesterol)

The main contributor to arterial plaque. Optimal level depends on risk profile – generally < 100 mg/dL for high‑risk individuals.

HDL (Good Cholesterol)

Helps remove cholesterol from arteries. Higher is better – > 60 mg/dL is protective; < 40 mg/dL increases risk.

Triglycerides

Fatty acids linked to heart disease, especially when elevated with other risk factors. Normal: < 150 mg/dL.

VLDL & Non‑HDL

VLDL is calculated from triglycerides; non‑HDL (total minus HDL) is a strong predictor of risk, especially in diabetes.

Advanced Lipoprotein Testing

For selected patients, we offer ApoB, Lp(a), and lipoprotein particle analysis – for personalised risk assessment.

How it works

Your lipid profile journey, step by step.

01
Prepare

Preparation

For accurate triglycerides and LDL calculation, fast for 9–12 hours (water only). Avoid alcohol and heavy meals the night before.

02
Sample collection

Blood draw

A trained phlebotomist collects a venous blood sample. The process is quick and gentle. We also offer home sample collection for your convenience.

03
Analysis

Laboratory processing

Samples are processed on fully automated analysers with enzymatic methods. Results are validated by pathologists before release.

04
Report

Reports are ready within 24 hours and delivered via WhatsApp or email. We provide reference ranges and highlight abnormal values.

Is it for you?

Lipid profile is recommended if any of these apply.

It is a core test for anyone concerned about heart health – and essential for those with risk factors.

Age ≥ 35 years (men) or ≥ 45 years (women)

Regular screening is recommended from these ages, or earlier if you have other risk factors.

Family history of heart disease or high cholesterol

If your parents or siblings have had heart attacks or high cholesterol, you are at higher risk – test early.

Diabetes, hypertension, or obesity

These conditions are closely linked with dyslipidaemia – lipid testing is essential for management.

Existing heart disease or stroke history

If you have had a heart attack, bypass surgery, or stroke, regular lipid profiles guide secondary prevention.

Smoking or sedentary lifestyle

These lifestyle factors increase risk – screening can motivate positive change.

Monitoring statin therapy

If you are on cholesterol‑lowering medication, regular testing ensures the dose is effective and safe.
